"When Zempilas was announced as the candidate for the Lord Mayor’s position at the City of Perth, we wondered which of the myriad conflicts he faces would be the first to surface. After all, he had so much to choose from:
Was it going to be a conflict with the business interests of his main employer Kerry Stokes? Or a conflict with the business interests of the radio station with which he is associated? Or a conflict with the AFL?
As it turned out, it was the conflict between the ethical and human rights principles that the City of Perth ascribes to and the “Blokey” Aussie Rules commentator and former player and radio ratings chaser with a penchant for exaggeration and a huge cancellation attitude to people who did not fit the mainstream.
Yes, Mr Zempilas has said he “forgot” that he was the Lord Mayor at the time he chose to cancel the entire Transgender community. This raises the question as to when he is next going to forget that he is the Lord Mayor and chooses to cancel some other community because it did not fit his “norm”.
