This is a letter I have written to @thewestaustralian. Not sure if it will be published.

A number of people from our Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CaLD) communities have contacted me to express their fear and concern about an anti-immigration rally that is being planned for later this month. That rally is supposedly going to occur nation-wide.
The Federal Government is well aware of what is being proposed. Minister for Multicultural Affairs Anne Aly has condemned the rallies and has been very clear in her commentary that this type of division will not dislodge the policy of Multiculturalism that has served this country so very well over the last 200+ years.
Having worked in this space for a number of years in an advocacy capacity, let me also join with her and Minister for Immigration Tony Burke in reassuring the CaLD communities that we have not built the foundations of multiculturalism for racists of the nature of some of these organisers to come along and disrupt the harmonious existence that has been eked out.
One aspect of concern that I will express is that a lot of the promotion of this event is actually occurring through workplace gatherings and communication channels. I would ask employers to monitor the unease that is being caused by the promotion of this event through their official channels.
The basis of multiculturalism is the creation of a harmonious and inclusive society. There is nothing to fear from it.
