A week ago I was writing to this newspaper to complain about the horrible comments being passed by people who attempt to portray themselves as these “tough Macho” Australians. Their attempts to do this are via the medium of social media and a keyboard. The reason for this is that none of them has the testicular fortitude to come out into the open and use their horrible vitriol other than via an anonymous screen of some kind.
Last week their target was Samantha Kerr and her partner who were celebrating the joyous event of pregnancy. Today it is an attack on Danielle Laidley, one of your columnists. Danielle has one of the best football brains in this country. She has played the game at the highest possible level, both here and in Victoria. To even question her credentials is absolute folly. To then poke fun at her gender and the dysphoria issues is not just inappropriate, it is downright evil and ill-intended.
For anyone needing to understand what Danielle has gone through I recommend that you spend a little of your time reading her book. Of course the words used therein comprise more than two syllables and may be beyond your comprehension. However, stay the course and you may understand that human beings such as Danielle do have feelings and that you may in fact be causing her serious psychological damage.
We have a long way to go to achieve some form of equality across diversity issues in this country. We have to try harder.
