Once again, our “One Trick Pony” in charge of the state, Premier McGowan goes to the tough guy stance on issues of rioting at Banksia Hill. What a bizarre set of circumstances apply now that a person, with a legal background in the defence forces considers himself an expert on FASD (Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders). To dismiss FASD as an “excuse” is unprecedented and highly inappropriate. And to then extrapolate the riots at the Detention Centre to acts of Terrorism is even more extraordinary.
This is the same Government that said that they were committed to “Aboriginal Youth Wellbeing that complements a range of initiatives we will be delivering to help build empowered, supported and culture-driven Aboriginal communities right across Western Australia”.
The rhetoric from the Premier is damaging in the extreme. It cannot be particularly empowering or supportive to any young Aboriginal person who is struggling with all the issues that have been identified, to hear our government’s head saying these things.
