It is when you see the following names on the honour board and podium of people representing Australia that you know that Multiculturalism as a government and public policy is really working here. The names, inter alia: Minjee and Min Woo Lee, Tina Rahimi, Saya Sakakibara, Peter Bol, Angela Yu, Setyana Mapasa, Hwan Bae, Ezi Magbegor, Dante Exum, Duop Reath.
These are but a few of the culturally and linguistically diverse community members currently in Paris for the Games. Let us celebrate their achievements as proud Australians.
It is still however disappointing that out of the 460 Australian athletes in Paris, only 11 identify as Aboriginal. That is approximately half the percentage of Aboriginal Australians in our country today. That is an area where we have much work to do.
