Lessons from New Zealand

9/12/2020

The NZ Commission of Inquiry into the massacre that occurred in Christchurch found a number of failings in the system of security that was in place in NZ. One of the most significant ones was that New Zealand’s intelligence agencies were too focused on the threat posed by Islamic extremism at the expense of other threats including white supremacism.

We have exactly the same issue being perpetrated here in Australia. Our security agencies have not even recognised the existence of, let alone the extent of the influence of the white supremacist culture as it exists here. They have been allowed to spread their tentacles and focus their influence on a number of places of decision making in this society.

Our parliamentarians have been complicit in this process by passing resolutions such as the infamous and discredited “It’s Ok to be white” one so favoured by the racists in America. Remembering, also that the perpetrator of the massacre in New Zealand had his racist grounding in his country of origin, Australia.

We have much to do to fight this scourge. Let us hope that we get a member of parliament with at least a modicum of resolve to tackle this issue.

Sincerely

Suresh Rajan
