"The sheer hypocrisy and politicisation of the Federal Coalition’s position in regard to the First Nations People of this country is laid bare and plainly obvious for all to see when Senators Cash and Price and Leader Peter Dutton all call for a Royal Commission into child sexual assault in remote communities.
The most recent Royal Commission that has concluded in Australia was the Disability Royal Commission. That took 4 years to complete at a cost of around $500 million. That Commission has made 222 recommendations and a number of these recommendations are not to take effect for around 30 years. So rather than find a practical use of $500 million to address the issues in community, the LNP chooses to have another race based enquiry that may not take effect for many years.
Further, calling for a Royal Commission solely based on race whilst opposing a constitutional amendment in a referendum because it “divided us on race” is utterly inconsistent and a bizarre position.
It is also indicative of an entirely punitive approach that has not worked in 235 years of white settlement in this country.
